The game won’t release in 2022, but Grinding Gear Games plans to release four expansions this year. The sooner you know more information about Path of Exile 2, the easier it is for you to earn more PoE Currency to help you enjoy the game better.

Path Of Exile 2 Release Date

However, based on announcements and reports, Path of Exile 2 will only be an expansion to the original game. Nevertheless, the expansion will introduce a lot of new content and features as well as gameplay changes.

Path of Exile 2 has been in development since its announcement at ExileCon in November 2019.

The official release date of Path of Exile 2 is yet to be announced as stated by Grinding Gear Games. However, an open beta for the game is expected to start in “2022 at the earliest.”

Grinding Gear Games was supposed to release a beta version of the game in 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the release of the beta version was delayed.

Even though the company has yet to announce the release date of Path of Exile 2, the full expansion is expected to release in 2024.

“In the meantime, we are continuing to release Path of Exile expansions on our regular three-month cycle,” as stated by Grinding Gear Games on the official website of Path of Exile 2.

As expected, the expansion will come to the Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 versions of Path of Exile. There is no information yet on whether an optimized version of Path of Exile will release to the Xbox Series X or S and to the PlayStation 5.

Path of Exile 2's New Gem System

The way gems work is changing in Path of Exile 2. In the new game, support gems will be socketed directly into your skill gems. Yes, gemception, but this will eliminate the need to resocket new armor to try and get the exact sockets you need, streamlining the system without eliminating complexity, which is what many want out of a Path of Exile sequel.

To that end, Path of Exile 2 will also come with a much more robust tutorial, and while the developers promise that the robust skill tree customization of the first game will return, the plan is to streamline this, too, to an extent, as many players look at the massive skill tree of Path of Exile, feel immediately intimidated, and then they quit, which makes PoE feel more intimidating than the game actually is.

Path of Exile 2 Gameplay

Path of Exile 2 will feature a brand new seven-act story campaign that, interestingly enough, will lead to the same endgame focused on the Atlas of Worlds already familiar to existing players.

The sequel will retain all the expansion content that Grinding Gear Games has built over the years while introducing a new skill system. The existing class archetypes will carry over, however players will have a whopping 19 new Ascendancy classes to choose from when designing builds.

Support gems will be socketed straight into skill gems in Path of Exile 2, potentially turning every skill gem into a 6-link. This means that sockets on armor are no longer a thing. Aura users will also be able to cast multiple auras with a single press of a button.

Path of Exile 2 reworks the gear progression while introducing new items for players to farm and tinker with using its crafting system. Shapeshifting is also making its way into the game, promising a fluid system that allows players to switch forms even while mid-animation.

During their new journey across Wraeclast, players will visit new areas and battle new monsters and bosses which, from the footage shown, seem to draw quite a bit from the more mechanically-intensive encounters of later expansions.

The visual side of the game will also be reworked, with new character models and improved animations. As for microtransactions, they will be usable across both games.
