We’ve recently learned that there are many new questions that many of our readers have. This blog is going to answer all those questions related to Level IV body Armor.
Is it Illegal to Wear Body Armor in Public?
We’ve answered this question in our FAQ, but we continue to get asked whether or not it’s legal to wear Level IV Body Armor in public. Instead of regurgitating the same lines over and over, I’d like to elaborate.

For most Americans, it’s 100% legal to wear body armor in any setting, from public shopping malls, schools, and even federal buildings. However, if you’re a convicted felon of a violent crime, you’re not allowed to wear any kind of ballistic protection.

Can Level 4 armor stop 50 BMG?
Absolutely not! Unfortunately a 50 caliber BMG is just too fast and powerful for the human body to stop. With a muzzle velocity of 3,044 ft/s and an energy of 13,310 ft-lbs force, this bullet impact alone will destroy your skeletal structure.

To put it in perspective, I was a .50 Cal (M2) gunner for my 2nd tour and I’ve split a toyota corolla in half like a knife through butter with less than 30 rounds. Even with our Duritium® technology, there is no chance a ballistic vest can stop a .50 cal BMG.
Is Ceramic Used in Level IV Body Armor?
We can’t speak for every company, but ShotStop® uses ceramic in conjunction with our Duritium® technology. Unfortunately, ceramic is more of an umbrella term that could include millions of combinations of elements and textiles. For a full explanation of how we produce the best body armor on the planet, read our FAQ section.
