Their repertoire includes numerous genres: classical, Venetian rondo, tangos, soundtracks, tributes to E. Morricone, pop, rock and operatic pieces.

Let's discover "the magic of the strings" with Roberta Ardito .

Was your name born to embrace the different styles of music you play?

There is so much curiosity about this name. We embrace different styles and different genres, but also different eras from baroque to rock and for this reason the name "Alter Echo" seemed appropriate to us. It was born as a mission that we wanted to carry out to bring young people closer to classical music with rock.

The group was born in 2011 from your initiative together with Marta and then evolved into the current formation. You have collaborated with Massimo Ranieri, Gio di Tonno, Andrea Bocelli, Gigi Proietti, the Pooh, Mario Biondi and many others. Are there any projects with female artists as well?

We recently worked with Elodie for an event on Netflix, in particular on the opening song of the TV series "Queen Carlotta". It was a very suggestive event in the center of Milan. Surely there will be others.

Besides the many pop and classic collaborations, do you have rock projects in mind?

Yes, this year we have a project called "Barock" where we will play all the rock classics arranged with classical instruments.

You are a group in continuous research, interweaving and arrangements.

We do something special, trying to propose new things. We're a bit of a novelty: it's not easy to find a female string quartet (not even electric ones) that offers rock music for “ancient” instruments. We also have songs in our repertoire that were written for us.

Soon there will be a concert at the Blue Note in Milan on May 16th. Tell us about this project.

The collaboration with Baccini began 10 years ago, and we finally managed to do a project together.

An exciting job for us and for   Francesco Baccini . Last week the new album was released and the video of the unreleased “L'equilibrista” will soon be released.

What do your summer dates know?

After the Blue Note in Milan, we have an important project with the Pooh on the occasion of their reunion.

We already have stages where we will accompany them, in particular 3 dates at the Verona Arena, then the San Siro Stadium in Milan, Florence, Bologna and Turin will follow.

You are the front woman of the group, at what age did you approach music?

I started playing the piano when I was seven but I didn't want to be a musician. I started with the violin and then I dedicated myself to the viola. The instrument that acts as a trade union between the highs and the lows. It's essential because it's the rhythm of the group, a bit like the drums in a classic band.

From a technical point of view, bringing pop and rock songs into classical highlights the melodic part with your very refined strings, but how is the rhythmic part (not present) compensated?

The viola tries to make up for it but we try to give our listeners a special experience by mixing genres. We must enter "into the concert". A bit like going to a museum and looking at a painting.

Have you stated in an interview that you want to achieve something high?

Since I was little, I've had this feeling inside of me, which led me to think I could do something big and extraordinary.

I still live this situation today, because I think I haven't achieved this "something high", despite having touched international stages and important collaborations with Alter Echo .

We thank Roberta who brought us into the world of the string quartet, who with her Alter Echo companions delight us with unexplored sounds.
