Geothermal springs have made Yellowstone National Park, the first national park in the world, renowned. Most of these hot waters are unsuitable for swimming, however there is a drift hunters swimming spot along the Firehole River that is heated from below.

In the summer, when the waters are calm enough to resemble a bathtub, the swimming area is a favorite destination for swimmers. Visitors should be aware that there are no lifeguards on duty and take all necessary precautions.

Firehole Canyon Drive can be found just south of Madison Junction; from there, it's a short drive to the swimming hole. Despite the allure, you shouldn't go cliff jumping there since it's illegal and might end badly.

A short stroll brings visitors to a succession of tiny pools and waterfalls along Lucy Brook in Bartlett, New Hampshire, making it a favorite summer destination for children. Waterproof hiking boots are a must for this hike.

The location puts on a spectacular natural display when the water levels reach peak flows, which occur at different times of the year. It may become busy, so arriving early is recommended if you want to get photos of empty pools.
